What is the Scriptorium Decathlon?
Achieve victory in this mind-bending set of challenges in order to become the Scriptorium Champion, with all of the bragging rights and prestige with which that title may endow the Decathlon winners (note: this is not a Kingdom or Baronial award but a part of the Scriptorium activities of the day--though it is our hope that this Championship will continue in the future.)
As opposed to an athletic decathlon, this is a competition of scribal and heraldry knowledge and skill. It is played in five rounds of questions with two questions per round, thus decathlon, plus a final drop-dead round. Each round poses one scribal question and one heraldic question. Questions will be multiple choice, matching or short answer during the five rounds.

Points will be given for each correct answer. Each round, the points will accrue so that at the end of five rounds we will have narrowed the field to those individuals who will continue to the final round.
Rules:
1. There are no teams. Each person plays individually. Sign up at the Decathlon Headquarters at or before the first round (you can even sign up ahead of time HERE). Rounds take place in between classes so competitors should plan to stop by to answer each rounds' questions.
2. Use of reference materials, cell phones, or other tools is prohibited. Players must rely upon their own knowledge and skill set to answer the questions. Consulting with others is prohibited.
3. Players should do their own work and not share information with others regarding the rounds.
4. Players will have five minutes from the time they receive the rounds’ questions to answer and submit their answer sheets. Competitors must stay at the Decathlon Headquarters from the time they receive their questions until they submit the answers during each round. Competitors may not take the questions away from the Decathlon Headquarters table.
5. In order to get points, the correct answer must be provided.
6. Each answer sheet must include the SCA name, the mundane name and the group with which the player resides (i.e., Barony of X, Canton of X, Shire of X, etc.) printed legibly.
7. The members of the Canton of Amurgorod who are on the Decathlon planning committee are not allowed to play.
Final Round:
Once the decathlon rounds are completed, the scores will be tallied up. The top scoring individuals will be in the final sudden-death round of competition to determine the top three placing competitors at the end of the day. The Scriptorium Champion will be the last person playing in the final round. There will be prizes for our top three competitors and possibly random prizes throughout the day. Questions will be asked by a Decathlon emcee and the person or team that clangs the bell first will have the first opportunity to answer the question and gain the points.
So begin limbering up your scribal and heraldic neurons so you can WoW the Populace with your enormous mental capacities and vast knowledge of all things scriptorial. Prizes will be awarded for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place scoring Decathlon victors.
